F1 » BBC could have to pay to ditch F1

The BBC could face a compensation claim should it decide to bail out of covering F1 before the end of its contract.

The problem is, there is an anti-F1 clique at the BBC, and they are ignoring the BBC Trust's own findings, findings that show F1 is their most cost effective sport.

F1 Cost per Viewer Hour = Hit
F1 Cost per Viewer = Hit
F1 Actual Reach 54% = Hit
F1 Actual Live Rating = Hit

Other sports in the report:

Euro 2008 Cost per Viewer Hour = Miss
Euro 2008 Actual Reach 35.2% = N/A
Olympics 2008 Cost per Viewer Hour = Miss
Olympics 2008 Actual Reach 42% = Miss
Olympics 2008 live Rating = Miss
Open Golf 2009 Cost per Viewer Hour = Miss
Open Golf 2009 live Rating = Miss
Snooker 2009 Cost per Viewer Hour = Miss
Snooker 2009 live Rating = Miss

It would be a double loss for BBC then.

I wouldnt mind if F1 moved to ITV. If they would keep all the presenting team, the only difference would be the commercials polution.

Cant see it working for Channel 4, racing is firmly occupying Saturday afternoons.

F1 is only costs the BBC 3% of its sports budget and viewed by a larger audience than viewed Wimbledon or Six Nations Rugby. You can read the fact filled report by Googling

Thanks Caroline.

Well it seems perfectly clear that Bernie should drastically reduce the small fortune he gathers from both the TV rights and the hosting fees, or I can see a collapse from the inside when the venues and BBC get some backbone and renegotiate their contracts. (if only they were bright enough) They all have cheaper ways to make money, and Bernie has to have his cut or suffer from CVC, in reality if they all said no we are not going to pay up, but we will pay say 50% bernie would loose millions trying to enforce what are illegal contracts due to the get out costs.

I don't know what kind of people watch F1, its a waste of time and as boring as Sunday Church Mass. The BBC would be wise to wash its hands of this corrupt organisation (F1) which clearly is in another world to which we do not belong.
