Admitting he can't do it himself, is just admitting the truth. Based on the math, he needs other drivers to take points away from Vettel to have a shot at the championship this year. Saying he needs help isn't a weakness.

Two drivers vocalizing what they both know to be true is hardly a conspiracy. They gain nothing by taking each other out fighting over scraps. Vettel is the one who has to be careful because his competition have nothing to lose. Looks like the second half of the season should be great.

Whether Hamilton and Alonso have a joint plan or not, I'm pretty sure the famous animosity between them has been mostly invented by the Press, not only for commercial reasons but from a naive belief that the qualities of their past working relationship translates into a permanent personal feeling. The relationship between team-mates always contains seeds of both competition and cooperation, but neither necessarily translates to real life.

For an actual Ferrari driver and Alonso of all people to say this must mean that the whole of the F1 paddock must be literally fed up now with Red Bull winning all of the time.

In poker we call that collusion but I can't see Lewis working with Fernando in that situation. They both want to win championships. They'll just fight all over again so this story wherever it came from is silly.

It's a simple mathematical fact that Alonso could win every remaining race by a country mile and not win the championship if Vettel gets enough 2nds/3rds. There's a big difference between "asking for help" and knowing that whatever you do you need other results to go your way.

As for a collusion between Alonso and Hamilton... how will that work? For anyone but Vettel to win, ONE driver (ie, Alonso, Hamilton or Webber... possibly still Button) needs to go on a winning streak equivalent to Vettel's at the start, with others in between taking points of Vettel. Those drivers sharing victories and podiums between them will play right into Vettel's hands...

This story has all the hallmarks of something involving one of rupert murdochs papers. Anyone who watched the race via the bbc's red button will have seen alonso's after race interview with lee/leigh mckenzie, she asked him about his championship chances, he responded that he and ferrari couldnt consider the championship as the gap was too big, and to have any chance they would need two strong mclarens beating the bulls, and we/ferrari would still need to beat mclaren to have any chance. She then remarked that had he forseen wishing for his former employees to be strong, only for another four months, was his reply with a smile. I think the interview is on a podcast on the bbc's web site
