F1 » Ecclestone: BBC stopped deal with Channel 4 or ITV

Bernie Ecclestone: They [the BBC] had a contract in force already, from 2012 all the way through to 2014. They got to grips with Sky themselves. I spoke with ITV too, and came up with the same problem as Channel 4 had. We had a contract with the BBC which didn't run out until 2014.

Bernie must think that he is clever and we are stupid:?

If he had a contract with the BBC untill 2014 then BBC would not have been able to change it and show only half of live races.

He signed a new contract with the BBC untill 2018 even when a better option was available.

There are (were) 10 million F1 viewers in the UK. At 40/month for Sky the cost for us would be 4bn/year!!!

We would have to fork out 4 BILLION!!!! so the teams can earn extra 1million each and Bernie/CVC can pocket half of the profits.

INSANE!!!

bernie and (his successor?) murdoch have ensured the teams feel like they are getting something out of the deal with a million each for the first year, they can use it as a down payment on buying a feed off rupert for there own purpose, while the bbc whose big wigs have very little interest in f1, can continue the 900 million hq relocation, and they wouldnt want anything to interfere with the olympic coverage next year. Some UK fans will lose interest, others will continue like old and new fans world wide.

Surely the BBC contract said 'live' coverage, so they have broken it. So Bernie could have sued. Game on, for ITV or Channel 4. Don't forget the BBC onsold coverage to commercial TV stations all over the world. This is still a disaster as most sports coverage has generally got better, worldwide, up to now. Rupert needs to appreciate that soon we will all watch anything for nearly free on our PC or iphone, or is he buying Apple as well?
