andrew. stewart and prost were not examples of independent team owners, as they both just bought up an existing team, and made a muck of it. the likes of surtees, brabham mclaren ets, will never be seen again.

msc is always the "favourite" of Ecclestone, he can attract a lot of F1 fans and attention,1991--2011,more than 20 years ,we're nearly used to be he in the circuit every weekend.
in addition, he has a lot of experience, he can make the exact decisions.

Richard - I was thinking of in recent times. Of course McLaren, Surtees and Brabham have been successful with drivers managing but those were different times.

I suppose in Prost's defence, the peugot engines were rubbish and their best driver (Panis) broke both legs when things were looking promising.

Stewart was a new start, they didn't buy an existing team but they were getting good results by 1999.
