Not to bash Vettel or DC but saying Vettel could be best ever will make a lot of folks eyebrows go up!. How can a person who has won a single WDC and dominated the year after on supposed best car be the best ever? Schumi did that before, and won 7 titles, so if voting goes, I think Schumi is a candidate along with Senna and Prost and even Alonso. A so called best ever will not make a mistake by pressure from Button.

Before some go on to bash Vettel and/or DC, let's just highlight the operative word 'COULD'. In effect, Alonso could, Hamilton could, B. Senna could.

I agree with DC, though, that Vettel has improved considerably. Post-Spa 2010 to now, it's been a great year for him. He's certainly got a lot to learn still, but if he continues to practice what he preaches in pc's and interviews, he can continue this impressive run.

He is certainly a very good driver and a very worthy champion, but the best ever? I honestly don't think so, especially when you look back over the years.

I know it will never happen so its maybe as daft as Coulthard's statement, but if you put all the drivers in identical cars, He would not have the championship lead he has now, in fact, in my opinion Alonso would be winning and he would be battling with Webber, Button, Hamilton, and maybe even Schumi for second.

A lot of the contenders for best ever - died young.

Vettel is very good, but it is ludicrous to suggest he is even on his way to being the best ever. Webber is certainly not the second best driver on the grid yet he is routinely finishing top 2. Clearly the car is hugely better performing than the others on the grid. Like always, sports fans(and drivers apparently) are so fickle. I suppose Button is a contender for greatest ever because of his start in the brawn??

Coulthards views are always clearly biased towards Red bull and their drivers as he still works for them. You pick this up a lot with him constantly defending them against any critism in his BBC roll. Vettel is very good, no doubt about that. But it's easy to say someone is great when they are driving the best car.

See how good he is when he has to start further down the grid then his usual pole position. To start from last place and make it up to 5th ala Schumacher, or start at 13th and come 4th (Button), now thats good driving...

nightsoil's comment is spot on. dc is not saying that seb IS the best ever, just that he COULD be. he has already written himself into the history books, and what age is he now? 23 (or is it 24?). provided he stays in f1, he stands a good chance of beating schumis records. as dc says, he COULD turn out to be the best ever, or at least until the next wunderkind comes along.
