F1 » Massa: I'm still the same driver as in 2008

Ferrari star Felipe Massa has defended his form in F1 2011 to-date, insisting that whilst he has 'not got the results', he remains 'exactly the same' driver as the one who came within a whisker of lifting the F1 crown three years ago

I'm sure he's convinced but many aren't, me included.

He's definitely improved recently but Alonso is a much better all round driver (grumpiness aside). He won't win the WDC while Alonso is a Ferrari.

I agree Taz. He says the right things, but I just don't sense there is the hunger, intensity and steely focus that is required. He often seems to have a sad sanguine look about him. Perhaps he still has "Fernando is faster than you" ringing in his ears.

I think he had his chance before Alonso arrived. A really unfortunate accident but i've never felt Ferrari can run 2 top cars & drivers.
Maybe needs to find another seat .

Only problem with this is you must improve every year, not stagnate. I wouldn't admit I haven't improved in three years as most of the rest of the field has. And the young guns are always nipping at your heals. "Let the devil take the hindmost"

The change in team mate is the biggest contribution to Felipe's current position at Ferrari. Kimi despite winning the title, accepted equal billing the following year, Alonso, like Schumacher before him would never have pulled over in China 08 to help Felipe's title bid.

Ferrari is just back to its old strategy of 1st driver 2nd driver. It's legal now so more power to them...I understand nobody is bigger than Ferrari, the team has to win.

FA is not .3/4/5s quicker than (the old) Massa, but if he gets the best mechanics, engineers, parts, strategy etc Massa can never beat him. Ferrari knows this as well which is why they still employ Flip.

Remember FA (good as he is) was about equal with Trulli at Renault and Hamilton at McLaren without 1st driver status. It wasn't until they drafted Fisi and made him play 2nd fiddle that he won his WCs.

It's up to Massa (though it might be too late already) if he wants to keep playing 2nd fiddle for the legendary team or take his chances elsewhere.

Blzbub, check your season reviews for 1999 will you :p

"Alonso, like Schumacher before him would never have pulled over in China 08 to help Felipe's title bid."

Schumacher probably would - remember 1999 when Schumi blitzed the field in Malaysia and let Irvine past to take the win? He would have done the same in Suzuka had it been in a position to benefit Irv.

Kiko . . . The season was 2000, and the final race, a victory for Schumacher, or finish behind Irvine would have made Irvine champion, Schumacher finushedw in the only position that would give Ferrari the constructors title while denying Irvine the drivers, check the details but you may find those facts correct.
