Sorry Richard I disagree. Defending his rights was not a money making excercise! Furthermore, he has proven to be a passionate and astute businessman and F1 team owner. However, Tony, don't do it. Team Lotus is THE Lotus.

DontTalkShite of course it was always about the money. Do you really think a team backed with Malaysian money is the "Real Lotus". When I think of Colin Chapman and Lotus, I think of innovation and a forward-thinking team. How Colin would feel now if he could see 'his' Lotus team trying to buy their way up the grid by buying gearbox/rear suspension parts off of the Red Bull team? They are an insult to the history of Team Lotus.

to quote you Mr Air Lotus "When I think of Colin Chapman and Lotus, I think of innovation and a forward-thinking team. How Colin would feel now if he could see 'his' Lotus team trying to buy their way up the grid by buying gearbox/rear suspension parts off of the Red Bull team? They are an insult to the history of Team Lotus." So you obviously mustn't be talking about "Group Lotus" Renault GP then as they don't even have a car.........or any heritage and are owned my the Malaysians???????????????

Lets see now - did the Lotus team of Clark, Hill, Rindt, Senna and Chapman spend their time pootling around the back, seconds off the pace of real F1 teams, failing to score as much as a Top 10 finish in nearly 30 races?
All this utterly unimpressive outfit have done is besmirch the record of one of F1's great historic names. I sincerely wish both they and 'Renault' had just left the great marque's name in history, where it belongs, and if we have even one less 'Lotus' next year, so much the better.

dts. did you follow lotus when it was a name to be reckoned with? if you did, then i dont know how you can associate malaysia f1 with real lotus!
using the caterham name would be apropriate, as they are really a kit car manufacturer now

He bought rights to the name and that's the whole of the law. Having realised that his ability to use the name was getting more and more shaky, he wants to change it. All fair enough. And I don't care what position British Racing Green cars are in, as long as they're doing their best.
