F1 » Raikkonen sets tongues wagging with F1 visit

Could Kimi Raikkonen be considering an F1 return with one of the sport's less successful teams of recent times?

@Richard: nope, Raikkonen has not been excluded from WRC. He has all his points and keeps on taking part in it. Autosport got it wrong, published it, and all the others copied the news without going to the original source of the news. The official WRC webpage tried to clear the mess, but it was too late: writing that Kimi has not been excluded from WRC is not as interesting as the opposite, regardless of what it's true.

BTW, Kimi is one of the only 3 drivers that have scored points in all the rallies they have taken part this season. The other two are Loeb and Hirvonen.

naund. thanks for that. i hadnt looked at wrc site, and personally felt that exclusion would be a very harsh penalty for dropping a rally.

but i suppose that if someone sees him going into tesco, there will be a story that he is going to become a fork lift driver,or shelf stacker???

It wasn't official obviously. But having won DTM for Mercedes, Di Resta has their full backing, which was partly responsible for his entry into FI.

So it is no secret where would his next step land after FI. Although Schumi won't be leaving until 2012, so Paul must wait for an year more.

"Kimi had the chance to rejoin Mclaren when Ferrari ditched him, he refused because the massive paycheck wasn't offered..."
That is bullcrap: Whitmarsh said that they couldn't agree on the PR stuff,it wasn't about the money.

Maybe he was testing something on their simulator. I think its unlikely the visit has anything to do with driving their F1 car next year.

I honestly can't see him coming back to F1... let alone with Williams. Going by EVERYTHING he has previosuly said in the press, he has no intention of going back to a "Mid Grid" team, and only really left the door open to a return with Red Bull or Mercedes. Having said that, Kimi does seem to change his mind all the time. He could have realised the errors of his ways, that F1 is where he wants to be, and realised that the only way to get back in a top team is to take the hit and drive for a below par team in the hope to atract one of the big boys for next year (or build Williams around himself and develop the team) I strongly doubt he was there just to view a Jag. But i can't imagine that he would bring with him the kind of bank roll that is currently required to be a Williams driver. Time will tell, but F1 would be a brighter place to have messer Raikkonen back on the grid.
