F1 » Singapore's debut still rankles with Massa

Felipe Massa recalls the first-ever Singapore Grand Prix with less affection than most after losing a potential victory in a race he claims was 'false'.

The real clue is this phrase

"at just the right point for Alonso to benefit from an outrageously early pit-stop"

Alonso had messed up Quali, yet knowingly went into the race with very little fuel, because he knew Nelson had been ordered to stick it in the wall at exactly the right moment. One or Two laps more and Alonso would have had to pit, utterly negating any chance of a drive through the field. Utterly impossible Alonso did not know all about it, purely on the evidence of otherwise bizarre strategy.

Alonso has cost Massa what would have been an undeserved Championship, but yet, has not won one for the Scuderia, Tifosi. He is not very popular in Italy at all !

Get over it , he lost points at other races. Does he blame Ferrari for blown engines? The championship is made of ALL THE RACES, not just one. I suppose he didn't make any mistakes all season.

Don't worry Flip everyone with a brain knows that you deserved the 2008 championship and if it hadn't been for others cheating, screwing up or getting lost (Tim) you would have won it easily. You might not have a championship to your name but you will always be remembered as a great sportsman, honest and a true team player, the complete opposite of the little fellow who lucked into the 2008 championship in fact.

You can't really lump this in with engine failures or other "normal" DNF's due to driver error or the inherent risks of the sport. You go inona race knowing your engine might go, but another driver willfully crashing his car on orders from his team is artificial, and illegal and thus cannot be considered when one looks at all the ways he might lose points. Saying he can't complain about this is like sayin he couldn't complain if he had been deliberately punted off by another driver. It is something that doesn't fall in then"normal" risks and hazards tona divers poit tally it wa ls something deliberate so yeah he definitely deserves to be mad because all other things being the same if Renault had played by the rules, Hamilton would just be some blowhard has been with no World Championship. I imagine that is more why people seem to not feel so bad for Massa... facts and logic are boring
