F1 » Webber: I just don't have the pace at the end of the stints

Mark Webber: We lost the podium in the middle of the race really. It's pretty much the general story of this year; I just don't have the pace at the end of the stints, so I run out of tyres and then lose strategy, it means I have to pit earlier and it makes life harder.

It was gut wrenching to watch even with a fairly good start. but JB i have always said, does all the talking on the track, full credit for JB for pulling MW in and then targeting P1 with SV. as for MW the Achilles heel for him has no doubt been the pirellis. MW has made no secret of it. SV just places the car alot better than MW and hence gets a better stint, thats no secret. that pic of him doesn't define near enough how much frustration he has right now. and yes CommodoreS 2012 may yield a better result for MW. good to see people with faith in drivers.

If you have any technical knowledge at all and not totally blinded by love of your fave driver its pretty easy to see that Webber has not been comfortable at all in this years Red Bull... If you compare a lap side by side of Webber and Vettel (BBC have done this a couple of times) it becomes very clear very quickly that Mark does not have the same confidence in the car on the turn into a corner... whether its tire feel or the way the blown diffuser makes the car react at the point doesn't really make any difference but the result is that it forces Webber to drive the car harder through the mid-corner and then try to get on the power earlier on the way out of the corner in order to maintain the lap speed... with the ultimate penalty being that his rear tires simply can't last as long...

I don't think Webber is the only person suffering from this... but he is the worst affected when compared to the performance of his team mate... which everyone has to remember, this year's car would've

Sorry Mark, but I just wished you didn t make remarks like this.

The car has the pace, and you are trying your very best, and this results are your limits.

As an unbiased Webber fan I am also very disappointed with Marks performance this year :(
But I also know there is more to it than meets the eye.
I'm only hoping with the 2012 changes he will be competitive with Vettel again, exactly like 2010.

I think you guys are making to much comparison
between Mark and Seb.

Ask yourselves these questions:

Where was the car speed on the 1st lap which
allowed J.B. an easy pass? Marks start was fine/
His entry on to the straight was fine. While this was
happening Seb was dancing away.

Why did Alonso jump Mark in the pitstops?

No conspiracy theory but why?

Food for thought.

Credit to Webber for admitting what we all know, he has know real pace and in a car that has and will match the Williams FW series cars of the nineties regards dominance, cars which were also designed by the great Newey.

I do think the new tyre specs have gone to far and drivers like Webber , Schumi and Hamilton are suffering more than the likes of Button who'
s natural smooth driving enables him to make tyres last longer, which is bit unfair to the naturally quick and aggressive drivers.

I am the same Commodore, have been following Mark since he started out, he is a much better driver than this year suggests, I hope with some changes next year he bounces back, I wonder how young Daniel would go in that car with full backing, he has taken to the Pirelli's rather well!

**roach. ricciardo was a drive who i had high hopes for, but i felt it was a mistake to put him in a hrt. unfortunately he has been totally uninspiring. marko has even told him to start showing some skill, but seems to have had little effect. why, even karthikeyan was faster than him, and we all know how he is regarded! i cannot see daniel progressing to str next year, unless he pulls his finger out.
