Jean-Eric Vergne says he could do a job for Red Bull Racing after Abu Dhabi test performance

Wow, a bit presumptuous I'd say. Some rookie who didn't even win the class he is in comes in and says he will be second in F1, at the very worst! I assume he is going with the squeeky wheel tactics, that wouldn't make him a subservient teammate to Vettel. We won't see him at Red Bull while Vettel is there. THere are a lot of proven guys in F1 that would love a red bull seat before this kid, and just about all of them would have a chance to match Webbers results in that car, but who is willing to be a second driver, that is the key imho.

Ah, Ze Franch Arro-gance!
Fair play to the kid, he's done well in testing. However, having never taken to the track in an F1 race, it's a really big call to have a crack at Webber. I think Ricciardo would get the call before him, even if his F1 experience is in the worst car in the class.
At least he has competed in F1.

As Le grand said, to not even win the Renault series, and then say something like this, sounds conceited AND deluded. If he at least won that series, he might sound arrogant, but at least he'd have some results to back his words up. Achieve something before you say you'll be able to do "at least" as well as a 6 time GP winner.

The team cherish Webber very much, now that he has accepted his #2 role. Not many would do it. So sorry Eric i think it's a long shot. Besides, Webber has signed another 1 year deal.

Even if Webber was leaving, Jaime Alguersuari has done a great job this year. If anything he should get the call to Red Bull before Riciardo, Buemi, or Vergne. Gotta pay your dues first Mr Vergne.

Hamilton's situation was different, he was pretty much raised by the team, and had way more F1 mileage than any rookie from 2008 onward could ever dream to have.

That is a big claim from someone who has never driven a F1 car in anger. How about you win a few GP before you say you can do Webber's job.

He may well be shooting his own foot here. What he has had is a young driver test. And what he has beside that is probably a shot at a STR seat. There is a chance that RBR management are not at all impressed with this, and Webber certainly seems to be a very popular team member over there. Personally I think this guy would be better suited for a GP2 seat at the moment. Webber still has a full year of contract left too, which makes this seem even more daft. Buemi may have faded a bit but I'd say both Ricciardo, who has done well against Liuzzi and Alguersuari who has had a great second half of the season are better candidates for any Red Bull seat than a hotshoe kid who's driven an F1 car ONCE.

vergne is probably right. he is not saying that he could do sebs job, but could do webbers number 2 job. his speed has shown up well and in the red bull, he could well be on a par with mark. but it will probably be str next year and if he shows well there, he will replace mark for 2013
