F1 » Vettel does 'awesome job' to nurse car to second

Sebastian Vettel: I hoped it [the gearbox] would recover so I kept pushing, but it didn't happen and then the target was to see the chequered flag.

@@@What a load of rubbish.

I think that for the first time this season THE IMPERIOUS VETTEL was not in control of the car.

Problem created and managed by remote by REDBULL engineers to allow PUPPET MASTER HORNER to obtain the maximum for his Team, with Mark winning 3RD spot for the title, and if a Vettel DNF had to happen for Webber to get 2nd or 3rd in the title that would have happened, without the need , maybe, for even SEB to know.

Horner is there to maximize results, not to be popular.
After his last DNF Vettel did not have any more milk to be expressed, but Mark did.

This is only a personal opinion.

Seb did a good job today but spare me the comparison with Senna in 1991. The kid is good but he's too full of himself.

In 1991 Senna was driving in changing condition with NO 2-3-4 gears (not having to short change them like Seb) and worse at the time transmission was MANUAL with a clutch. Not the same as the fine electronic control of the paddle shifters Seb has today.

This kid needs to stop trying to pretend he's already at par with the greats of the past. Live for today and make your mark without those silly comparions.

Paul G@@@@@@@@
You are mostly right, but you can only be good as the technology of your time.
At this time he is the best anybody could be,
As far as we could guess the Senna ,Prost, or even Schumacher could be confused by today s technology and Vettel could be as good as any of the Past champs.

We will never know.

@ Paul G - I was gonna say the same thing.
Senna with a manual, actually missing gears in cars that would have been much more difficult to drive and having Mansell hunting you down all race.
Senna effort was so huge that they had to lift him out of the car as he was physically destroyed from using every bit of energy and reserves that he had left.
A true super human effort that was.

There's a bloke in the next village who actually builds these gearboxes (but not for RBR) They are built like watches in not just laboratory conditions, but in operating theatre conditions. He said it is impossible to run them without the right amount of oil, set fast laps and make to the end of the race.
Can't help thinking that if it was Cricket someone would be having their collar felt.
Oh, and by the way I admire SV

........it looks like most of us here agree this race was manipulated by Bullcrappers to give MW "a win". They tell Seb after 5 laps he has a gearbox issue and then it lasts another 66 laps!!! Not team orders, but definitely team manipulation of the race result!! This is a scandal!!! No different to Renoo "manipulating" the race result at Spore 09, by fuelling Alonso long and getting Piquet to bring out the SC at just the right time to benefit his teammate to the max. This "gearbox issue" telemetry needs to be made public now, because it was DURING the race people were already suspicious that the gearbox issue was garbage!! Seb set a fastest lap around 30 laps into the race. Hardly a driver nursing an issue! Horner needs to be called in to explain before it all gets blown up into a big issue!

oh get over it. FOUR cars had gearbox issues, but only one had total failure. the simple fact is that oil WAS leaking from the pipework, as evidenced by it spraying onto the camera. i am also sure that there are additives used (such as stp of old) that can cushion the effects of oil loss.
if mark had a gearbox problem, there would have been claims that rbr did this deliberately to favour seb. and now when seb has gearbox problems, rbr have done it deliberately to help mark!!
the temperatures in gearbox were rising, and seb weas having problems with gearchange. it put him off the road at one point.
it seems a shame that at the end of a good season, there are still some who will not accept plain facts.
