The only way Silverstone would have more grid slots would be to use the GP track which isn't suitable for karts. 36 is still a massive grid and with a line-up like this it should be a fantastic event. Big respect to everyone taking part in this tribute to Dan.

Maybe this could become an annual event - and held at different, suitable, kart tracks (like Buckmore Park) where Dan had raced in that part of his career.

The format is that each team will have one professional driver, and three "amateurs" - hence the 36 karts - hope that clarifies.

And NKT - this article is not the place for your irrelevant comments. This page is about Dan.

I believe it is 36 actual teams. Each team will consist of a professional driver and 3 "amateur" drivers. Since it an endurance cart event (2 hours) only one driver per team is on the grid at one time....for a total of 36 cars.

At least this is how I understood it from another article of the event.

With the greatest of respect, Button ought to leave well alone. Dan Wheldon left the UK for the US to drive very dangerous IndyCar's because he had no money. Button (and a host of others) have been supported by their wealthy and deep pocketed fathers all along in the safe environment that's F1. Now that Dan is gone I'm sure all those close to him, especially family, are getting (slowly) over his tragic passing. RIP Danno

Why should Button "leave well alone"?

He's raising funds for charity in memory of a man who died doing as he lived, racing cars, and whom Button knew well personally. I think it's an admirable gesture personally.
