Peter Sauber said that KR will only be motivated if he is in a top car.
Ron Dennis nicknamed him the iceman.
When KR burst into F1 many criticized both him and Peter Sauber as at 21 years old and with only 23 race starts of sorts to his name he was regarded as inexperienced, these included the RBR boss/owner then a shareholder in Sauber and MM of the FIA.
The FIA granted him a special dispensation (provisional super licences) to be able to race in F1.

Most of people said he is not motivated & almost zero in car development..... but what I read from the engineer comment during his days at Mclaren he is very good at setting up car & going to the engine limits, apart from that he's the only F1 driver can drive a crap undelvope Ferrari and win while the other Ferrari not even managed to pass Q2

Ferrari showed him the door because for whatever reason, the communication between Kimi and his engineers wasnt as straightforward as it could be, they needed a more 'self centred' team leader.
On his feedback, Adrian Newey describes him (along with fellow Hakkinen) as being economical in its vocabulary, but 'very' accurate and worth listening to. I think once Massa had his unfortunate accident the team were forced to listen to Kimi, and his results in an undeveloped car spoke volumes.

Frrrari replaced KR with Alonso because Ferrari believed Alonso was a more complete driver than KR. Alonso's superiority over Massa compared to KR proved Ferrari right.
