Ptolomy - That's right ! US has designed lots of magnificent things. So have the Brits. Not everything did or does come out of Germany, mind you their engineers and scientists are outstanding and usually snapped up by US companies or military.
Look at Nikola Tesla - He was the greatest scientist/inventor the world has ever seen and he was Serbian. The bloke has over 700 patents that are still used all over the world today, and single handedly created the 20th century. Things like AC powergrid, x- rays, spark plugs, radio, radar, all sorts of wirelss technology, tesla coil, electric cars - This guy was bucketloads smarter than Einstein !

All this stuff about engineers - I would just like to see an F1 car built with all the good stuff thats been banned over the years - like Active suspension, ABS brakes, traction control, F-Ducts, Blown split double diffusers, 4WD, etc......now that would be awesome....

@Matt
R u joking?
Our economy is based on defence companies not engineering. We r good in science but not engineering. And its true we attract talent from all countries.
Not sure what UK's economy is good for. I guess textiles. But u r an Australian right?

ADAM! You've said it! Just what I've been thinking for as long as I've been in F1.
Unrestriced rules with the exception of engine displacement to keep the top speeds down is the way I feel. But then maybe we would have problems with the drivers passing out from the G-forces?

Angelina - What does me being and Aussie have to do with the price of eggs ? Military designs and engineers lots of stuff. America is ranks 17th in the world for Reading Maths and Science when it used to be in the top 5 20-30 years ago. But enough of this crap, back to cars.

I disagree with Adam. Having things like TC, ABS, 4wd and active suspension just takes away from driver skills and places even more emphasis on the car, those devises are for girls like the Auto parking button on road cars these days.
IMO they need to seriously decrease downforce, have wider tyres, manual gearbox and big turbo HP, then let the engineers go nuts on that basis. Make the drivers real men again.

matt. mitchell certainly did NOT invent the first monoplane! have you ever watched "those magnificent men in their flying machines" movie?? there are a couple of monoplanes there! i think bleriot was the first to develop it, or was it leonardo da vinci and his hang glider? maybe you meant monocoque? but again, mitchell wasnt the first to use this construction either,but he did perfect it, with butt fastened panels, flush riveting etc.

anyway, as sunny says, the interesting thread has denegrated to silliness....mine is better than yours....no MINE is better.....!

The only problem with the engines is that they would at least need to be limited to a VERY small displacement. With turobsupercharging the engineers would be able to produce DANGEROUS speeds. I wonder how small they would have to be? I'd say 800-1000cc.
