F1 » F1 Driver of the Year vote: 1st

He had shown glimpses in 2010 of what his move to McLaren may produce, but Jenson Button proved that he was no one-hit wonder as he took control of the team en route to runners-up honours in the 2011 F1 world championship - and top spot in your F1 Driver of the Year poll

Andy's posting must be one of the most sensible and thoughfull post i have read all year in crash -

'Personally I would still have had Vettel first but to take the position that, because he was world champion he must therefore, automatically be the best driver, is garbage. The history of the sport is littered with champions who were clearly not the best of their era, they just had the better car or better good fortune...'

On the other hand the CommodoreS posting has to be the dumbest yet! -

'The poll was a farce.

I did not even bother to vote as I knew the outcome
would be biased.'

He has the cheek to slate the pole outcome yet he didnt even vote, what an oink! maybe he should have voted he may have made a difference it's quite possible that there could only have been a vote or two in it!!!

Sebastian Vettel is the youngest ever double World Champion - won 11 races against JB's 3 - claimed 15 pole positions (a record) against JB's 0 and did it all in a car with a lot less horsepower than JB's. Yet he has been voted second best. Please take a good long look at yourselves !!!

This poll proves that you cant win everything, I don't think Seb will be very disappointed with these results !

Happy New Year all, from Adelaide - The best F1 street circuit ever !

I am quite satisfied to see Alonso on the third step of the podium but not entirely happy to see Jenson. I mean, guys, let's be realistic here! Vettel won pretty much everything this year with a car (presumably) identical to the one driven by his team mate Webber and look at what he did. He dwarfed his team mate and any other driver on the track (McLaren or Ferrari, it doesn't really matter at the end).

I am Italian and I have to admit that it hurts to see Red Bull winning again but I have the feeling that this website is mainly visited by Brits (hence the result of this poll). I bet that a German website would have definitely yielded a different result.

Anyway, hats off to Jenson for his remarkable year but let's not place it on the first spot of the podium because that's Vettel's and no one can argue with that. Sadly it's not Alonso but I can live with it for the next 3 months :)

Happy new year everyone! Andrea

I'm reading an excellent book by Jackie Stewart "Winning is not enough" - Winning was not enough for Vettel to win the CRASH readers Driver of the Year vote.

Congratulation Jenson.

It is clear that this poll was based on fan popularity and was not based on points. If it was, there would be no need for a poll as we would merely reference the points chart. It does indicate who the fans think did the best job with the equipment they had, in their respective team environments. You might quibble over the order of the top three, but Button, Vettel, and Alonso clearly "owned" their respective teams and the faults of their teammates became quite apparent. We never heard "need to get better', or "need to change what I'm doing" from the mouths of these three, a common statement from their teammates. I am certain that if we were hypothetically given the opportunity to begin a F1 team from scratch, our two drivers would come from these three, and that Vettel might not necessarily be one of the two. Who would you prefer? Button, Alonso and or Vettel? or Hamilton, Massa and or Webber? Hamilton is the best of the latter, and he is psychologically damaged goods. Senna or Prost n
