F1 » Trulli safe, despite Petrov talks?

Vitaly Petrov now appears to be chasing the third seat at Caterham F1, rather than trying to oust Jarno Trulli from his race role.

I have a great deal of respect for any driver who's been able to stay in Formula 1 for so long, since you can't achieve a long lasting career in this sport without being a good asset to a team, but frankly it's disappointing that fossils like Trulli and Barrichello deprive the series of young drivers. They've both had a long time in the sport, and at this point in their careers they're only moving backwards, not forward. Time to move over and let some of the young guns have a go.

For previous generations, a driver who did not achieve World Championship success in F1 still had the possibility of a great career in sports cars. Ickx, Bell, Stuck, Cheever, Alboreto...the list could go on forever.

I genuinely hope that with the restoration of the WSC we can see that career option return.

Better put in Petrov, he definitely has more hunger to prove himself than Old Jarno...Both Jarno and Rubi had their time in top teams noW its time to move out

Taz: "Truli doesn't bring any sponsors though does he?"

A quick look at his website shows that he has six personal sponsors, none of which have been displayed on the previous two Lotus cars he's driven. With that being the case I can't imagine them bringing all that much money to the outfit. Petrov is a much more attractive prospect, he's a key into an untapped region of marketing for Formula 1 and with a Russian GP in the works it would be in the sports best interest to have a Russian driver. Why Trulli remains at Caterham when there are eager young drivers waiting in the wings is completely beyond my comprehension.

You all clearly dont know what your talking about!!

Trulli is still a far better driver than Petrov will ever be!

Petrov ended the season well and truely beaten by both his team mates at Renault last season - even Senna when he came in half way through and is not exactly class himself.

There is a reason why Renault (lotus) have got rid of Petrov and replaced him with Grojean! Because hes not upto it!

F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport - you cant just get a shot at it because your young and have a bit of talent!

Rubens is far better than Maldonado and Senna and its a disgrace Maldonado gets a place because of the money he brings in!! Thats the only reason he is there!!

Trulli has lost a little bit of qualifying pace of late but actually finished higher than Heikki in the driver standings due to his good races!!

Give the guy a break ffs!!
