The DRS was not the first step in the decline from the true spirit of F1, the decline started by the rules curbing technical developments, they went as far as to have homologated parts which cannot be altered, today's F1 car is as near to a specification series as can be, when the rule makers got FI up to that point they felt the need to introduce artificial drivers aids operated by the push of a button, not only that but to make sure one of them (DRS) works they ruled that the driver being overtaken cannot use it, and so they the rule makers and some video games modern fanatics which unfortunately they call themselves FI fans could say how exiting the racing is now but forgetting that the driver being overtaken is a sitting duck.

DRS would get my vote if it required talent or balls to use... Like it does in qualifying.

If they were to change the implementation to always active, but gets shut off if someone closes within 1 second, it wouldn't feel so artificial. And it wouldn't punish the leader for doing the best job.

It was the same fuss with: kers, wings, ground effects, semi auto gearboxes, auto gearboxes, active ride, launch control, quali tires, groovey tires, multi tire brands, turbos,......................waffle, waffle, drone.....

At this point, I just hope that more and more important people in the business of F1 will get vocal about getting rid of that crap before the new cars arrive for 2014...

100 percent of the battles and overtaking I thoroughly enjoyed last year were not involving DRS. I don't see the excitement of having a guy flashing by another in a straight where the defense is just a sitting duck.

AFAIC, this is certainly not the path I want to see F1 in but like many things in this world, I don't get to chose. The thing is my excitement for this sport is unfortunately taking a dent because the DRS might indeed be the first step of many to come...

Looks like the DRS system works..What should be done is remove
All restrictions, put the complete use of DRS in the hands of the drivers.
No zones, or 1 second craziness..Let them boys race!!

DRS has not improved the spectacle of F1 and should be banned- too artificial. More leeway to innovate should be allowed for the teams. Look into allowable engine developments with, say, a weight penalty if implemented. Offer three or more tire choices two of which must be used during the race. Lower the minimum car weight to allow the designers more freedom for weight distribution.
F1 has to find a way to improve the show.

The DRS only "works" because the guy in front can't use it...You could attain the same result by cutting engine power to your opponent at the push of a button...

DRS is a joke and F1 is becoming one.
The whole spec series thing is about safety. They banned turbos because they were supposedly becoming to quick, they put restrictions on after 2004 for the same reason, yet nobody has died since Ayrton. Massa's incident was just a freak occurence and saftety has become so good that they are going to far with it. F1 is suppose to be innovation and dangerous. Look a moto GP, you can't make that safe - it's the love for it and the risk you take.
Aero is too good now, cars can't follow so reduce it and bring back ground effects - then the corner speed is still fast but cars can follow closely. Open the engine development back up.
The truth is Bernie doesn't want engineers going nuts, then the field wont be close then the best cars run away to much and less people watch. This is all about Bernie getting more viewers = more money = DRS = spec series.
