Jaime Alguersuari reveals he turned down offers elsewhere after Toro Rosso told him his drive was safe for 2012

I thought that Algy did enough on merit to warrant his seat at STR. His race pace and consistency was good. His single lap quali is not so good , but F1 is more about kindness to tyres than aggression these days and it seems to suit him.

I felt sorry for Jaime at first, but the end of the article annoyed me.

"Having said that I believe that De la Rosa has wide enough capacity to develop and improve these cars as well as the team. Maybe this opens new opportunities for the future."

...So he ignored the chance of a seat at HRT because it's not good enough for him, but he's hoping some other drivers can help develop the car so he can step in later?? What kind of attitude is that?

Buemi, who didnt have a blazing row with the boss in public, was at the factory on the simulater when he got the call, so Jaimie had no chance really, on top of that, many of his best race performances came as a result of being unable to progress through qualifying as well as his team mate and be rewarded with fresher tyres as a consequence

Regardless of whether Buemi and Algy are good enough for F1, this whole thing has clearly been another d1ck move by Helmut M.

First pretty much confirm them for next year, have them do some PR/simulator work then drop them at the last minute leaving them no other options in F1.

What a humongous **** that guy truely is.

Buemi will probably be grinding his teeth all year long while desperately trying to find a different team. Now he works for an organisation with a guy in charge that f'ed him over. I don't whether to admire the guy or disrespect him for remaining under the reign of Helmut 'psycho' M.

I admit I am a Fan of Alguersuari. Watched him race f3 in 08 and followed him since. The top and bottom of it is that Helmut Marko shafted him. All I can hope for is that very soon he can drive with another team and cause Marko and red bull a few problems....

Reason Algy got the chop is because of one eyed jack's "philosophy" regarding Toro R's drivers, ie that they are somewhere between X factor hopefuls, and replaceable lightbulbs. Given the level of vindictiveness and Machiavellianism shown by the great Helmut, who was deeply unpopular with just about every other driver when he was on the grid, I do wonder what the real reason is for there being such a huge gulf between Webber's and Vettel's performances last year, compared with 2010.

@droog- i shouldn't think so. Webber is only there as they have to have two cars on the grid. Dieter can afford his salary comfortably and its good for Red Bull's image in the Australian marketplace. Webber's job is safer than when he was actually competing with Vettel.

@JJJ

I agree mostly except Buemi wasn't that good, ok but not an RBR senior team driver material, Jaime deserved one more season based on the time Buemi had but we know this team's history with drivers.

Based on what did he trust the Franz Tost and Helmut Marko dream team? Look at what they have done to their previous drivers. They sacked SeaBass when he was regularly in the final round of qualifying. Clueless team leadership that doesn't give a crap about the drivers. Why would anybody work for them?
