McLaren sets early pace in Melbourne, but damp and drying track leaves results inconclusive.

Nice start to the season! McLaren certainly seem to have their data dialled into their cars as they were straight on the pace and then some! Impressive from Mercedes too. Red Bull will be there come Q2.
Not to sure about Sky's coverage. It's a bit tacky!

@Tealeaf - I think that declaring "Game Over" after the results of the first practice session on the first day of the first race of the season in mixed conditions is a bit premature.

Who knows - maybe I'll eat those words.

McLaren to be fair look pretty damn good. On the pace pretty much straight out of the box. Don't want to jinx this but Button in particular looked good. The timing sheets say he was 2 and a half tenths clear or so but in truth Button had set a couple of laps which I believe were faster than Hamilton's pace. He kept pumping in those mid 1m27s. Think he did about 3 on the trot. Hamilton isn't exactly looking like a slouch either so hopefully McLaren are the team that will take it to Red Bull, who I haven't seen much from tbh.

@AC - yeah very true :)

But it would be great to see 4 or 5 teams competing tooth and nail - Lotus and Merc especially. Let's see what old guys have in their pockets!

@ sokudo I really hope so. I just want to see a change up front. I admit I'm a mclaren fan and I would love to see them win it. If that's not possible I want to see some other team take it. I just want Redbull to go down. I'm sick and tired of Horner, Newey, Marko, and Vettel. The only guy I have any sympathy for is MW. He deserves better. It's time for a change.
