LH's pit crew didn't mess up. They had to hold him longer because FM came in right behind FA and they couldn't release him until FM had passed. This is what gave FA the extra time at the first pit stop. If it had been Ferrari, maybe they would have released him, but it's McLaren. Congratulations to FA, who drove a calm race. Stupendous race by Perez who could have got Alonso if he wasn't told how important the points were.

yeah I am sure that the fact that this was the first podium ever for Sauber since the transfer of te team from BMW had nothing to see with the engineer message "dont lose this podium !! :P

calvin. were you watching the race? lulu slightly overshot his box, and the rear jackman could not engage the jack. that was part of the problem. then the front mechanics were trying to remove brake duct masking tapes and had a little problem.
absolutely NOTHING to do with ferrari!

richard, I did watch the race. I saw the problem with the rear jack and much later the issue with the tape, but I also saw the view from LH's car, and he was not released because of the arrival of FM's Ferrari. Whether the other issue may have released him in time to miss FM's car, I don't know. It wasn't a great pitstop, so maybe it was a combination of everything. I didn't see any overshoot, but I don't think it was by much, and within tolerances, and it's better than missing your garage completely.

Just read the post race interviews of RBR. In which CH is saying that they lost all communications with SV and only had the pit boards as communication. If this is true, what were those strange radio messages on the last lap?

CH is also saying that NK hit SV! Yes, I know NK got hit with a penalty, but sorry, for me, another case of SV cutting in too soon.

calvin. those "strange" communications were to try and warn him that there was a serious problem with the brake on the left rear, as a result of his punctured tyre. vettel could not hear the instructions due to the broken radio. a pit board couldnt tell him what the problem was, and whereas he might have felt a problem, he nursed the car to the end. all this is contained in the post race report.

re the nk incident, it appears that nk had been off the road and was returning to road, off line. it would be nice to see an overhead shot before passing judgment, but i guess that the stewards had access to one, and/or the telemetry
