Fernando Alonso is not the best driver on the grid, says 1979 F1 world champion, Jody Scheckter.

antopodean! you should google the word 'antipodes' you will find that any person who is diametricaly across the world from another point, is an antipodean! so to those from oz, the brits are antipodeans! etc etc. it just so happens that the brits used the phrase to describe anybody from oz, nz and other areas in that vicinity.

Erm can I remind F1's crybaby's fan club that didn't Alonso bottle the final race in 2010 in Abu Dhabi? The last time I checked he only needed 3rd place, he started 3rd on the grid and our so called all round driver was stuck looking at a certain Russian's behind.

First most of the posters on this thread are stupid to not realise it is a Crash.Net "story", as the comments were made well before the season started.

Alonso can carry any car and make it perform well above it potential. Shame on you Ferrari.

I think Alonso did very well at McLaren, considering after the Lulu/Denis problem, Ron gave Alonso all the apprentices to run the car.

Haha haha!

This is coming from the worst F1 Champion of all time. A character who got to be champion not because of skill but because of team orders. It's people like him who prevent characters like Villeneueve to win the championship. 1979 was Villneueve's year, he made it special and it was taken from him.

In my opinion I see Alonso as the Spanish equivalent to Villienueve. Both are racers, both work their car to the maximum and both were able to turn dog of a car to victory. It won't be long until the Italian fans love alonso just as much as Villienueve.

Scheckter played second fiddle to one of the all-time greatest natural racing drivers in Gilles Villeneuve. I can only imagine that he's been left scarred by the experience of watching drivers with skills that dwarf his own! And the Ferrari-hate is well documented on his part. If I were Alonso, I wouldn't be to bothered with this twaddle from Scheckter. Alonso may not be the fastest, but IMO he's the best rounded driver on the grid, and his passing ability sets him apart. Cleanest lines go to Button. Ingenuity goes to Raikkonen. Aggressiveness goes to Hamilton. Engineer-friendliness goes to Schumacher. But the 'complete package' prize definitely goes to Alonso, no doubt about it.

@ Ray
"Alonso can carry any car and make it perform well above it potential."
I think thats why he finished 3rd & behind his rookie teammate in d fastest car on d grid in 2007.

@FJM
"Alonso's passing ability sets him apart"
Jenny has given one example of his epic passing abilities in Abu Dhabi 2010. I ll give another. Germany 2010 he could easily pass his teammate, so easily that he had 2 request his team 2 issue a teamorder to his teammate.

Button is d best passer.
Vettel takes d cleaniest lines and is consistent with his line 4 all the 60 laps of d race.

Ur post is obviously anti Vettel and pro FA.

@ Angelina,
Not sure what F1 you have been watching or what ladies books you read your results in, But again Alonso and Lulu had the same points at the end of the season. After Ron Denis took all the support of McLaren F1 away from Alonso, after Hungary, and gave him all the apprentices to run his car. I would say that is pretty good, in consideration.

Have a good day.......
