Fernando Alonso is not the best driver on the grid, says 1979 F1 world champion, Jody Scheckter.

Googol, in a crowd of dishonest people there will always be some honest ones that will stand up.
Having remembered Jody Scheckter means you remember Gilles Villeneuve, I do not know if you have seen him driving a racing car or not, I did and I consider myself privileged to have seen one of the best racing drivers of all time, he was such a racer that he in a short time stole the heart of a man renown in FI history as the man that held his F1 drivers calibre as secondary to his beloved cars.

Crash, the fair thing to do is Delete this article. Old news,
as old as 'Dog' fleas.
The reason he didn't name who is top dog (Lewis Hamilton),
is that whole concept is not now, and never will be part of his persona.
A little like my antagonistic duo friends, Batman and Robin,
Naysayers down to the bones.
Maybe Jose is the Joker?
What a dog this article is..

Oh please. Alonso would have won the title when both he and Hamilton were teammates if it wasn't for McLaren wanting their favored driver Hamilton to win the title in his rookie year. Yes, they both had the same equipment and the car was easy to drive according to both drivers and Pedro De La Rosa. But Alonso, for the last third of the campaign carried more fuel and didn't have free choice of what tires to choose in qualifying and the races. Same thing happened to Kovalainen while teammate to Hamilton, but unlike Alonso, Kovalainen only alludes to this treatment. As another poster pointed out, Hamilton hasn't looked as good since his rookie year. Truth.

I agree with the comments that Scheckter needs to pick the best guy or else has not bothered to assess all the drivers to actually be able to say Alonso is not the best.

It is almost impossible to know who is the best driver , it depends on their style , the particular car under particular rules, their changeable form etc. No driver constantly performs at the same level over the whole of their career.

If Alonso was pit against someone other than Massa maybe making a distinction would be easier.

Something tells me that if Alonso had a car that could qualify as well as the Mercedes of even Lotus , he would bring far better results for those teams . Thats just my opinion though.

In the current field of drivers, I can't think of any driver better than Alonso. Except for Shuey in his heydays, none of he current drivers, besides Alonso have won or almost won a WDC without the best car. If that is the driver's skills what is that? he good driver is someone who is consistent and also fast and intelligent. Button has not been that consistent anyway. Since winning his WDC in 2009 with the fastest car in the first season, he has had sparks of success but that is hardly a testament to his driving skills. He needs a perfect setup to win races.

It is very easy to make a critic over other person, but perhaps Mr. Scheckter will have to remember that he was once called a "madman and a menace to himself and everybody else and does not belong in Formula 1" by Mr. Emereson Fittipaldi and after this comment in the next race he was involved in a big accident which took nearly a dozen cars out of the race, The Grand Prix Drivers Association demanded his immediate banishment. So with all the respect I do not think this gentleman has any opinion on other drivers.
