@ Taipan "....and now he's not." Oh really?? I guess it depends on who is doing the seeing. It would appear that most of those whose opinions carry any weight still consider Hamilton a future multiple champion.(And before you suggest otherwise, I am nobody's fanboy.)

What I was going to say though is, it doesn't matter who this rule is applied to, it is a silly, silly rule and should be applied to no-one! It is one of a number of silly rules which currently make a mockery of Formula 1.

RMcGeddon
I beg to differ. The rule should penalize the driver as it does. Different drivers handle the cars differently and maybe the same gearbox won't be damaged in the hands of Button(just an eg.).

The engine failures too r due to excessive use of engine power. The disadvantage their is that different engines have different powers. FIA should standardize engines like tyres as teams don't design them anyway.
Teams design gearboxes so, they cannot standardize them though i will like to see that. Only aero, wings, etc should be different.

RMcGeddon, My opinion that he is no longer multiple WDC material is based on probability and statistics. You see statistics state that if you are going to win multiple WDC's then probability suggests that the first 2 will be separated by 2 years or less, some examples...

Schumacher 94 & 95
Prost 85 & 86
Brabham 59 & 60
Stewart 69 & 71
Lauda 75 & 77
Piquet 81 & 83
Senna 88 & 90
Ascari 52 & 53
Fittipaldi 72 &74
Hakkinen 98 & 99
Alonso 05 & 06
Vettel 10 & 11

That leaves only 2 multiple WDC's Fangio 51 & 54 being his first 2 (only 3 years apart) and Graham Hill the only multiple WDC who has a bigger gap than 3 years between his first and second championship 62 & 68.

So you see I base my opinion on statistics and probability, what do you base your opinions on?

A lot of comments over a pretty straight forward piece of news here - I suppose this particular story is interesting and provokes discussion because it highlights some of Hamilton's strengths and weaknesses as a driver. In that sense it's interesting to hear he's never won from below P4 on the quali grid. I guess that makes sense for the same reason that this is potentially a bigger problem for him than for many others on the grid, simply because, in my opinion:

- His biggest strength is his single lap speed.
- His biggest weakness is his lack of race craft.

This is why he's so brilliant from pole and why he finds it so difficult to overcome a lesser grid position, and also why he needs to have the best car to win the WDC. This is also why at this point it seems the title might be his to lose, because if indeed he does have the best car throughout the season he will usually be on pole, and then he will have a very good chance at winning unless he maintains his old habit of throwing i
