F1 » Could aborted talks have made Alguersuari a 2012 frontrunner?

Jaime Alguersuari was reportedly approached by Lotus F1 about 2012 - before the Spaniard's rebuff sent the Enstone team in pursuit of Kimi Raikkonen.

Its a travesty that Jaime Alguersuari is not on the 2012 grid as he showed speed and maturity last year. Its also a shame that Lotus did not sign him despite having Kimi Raikkonen on board, although Romain Grosjean is a good racer.

Hopefully we will see him on the grid next year.

shame he lost out on a drive this year but as a pundit he is hopeless and boring probably cos his is too young to know anything.
The whole thing makes no sense when you see the excellent team the bbc has assembled for the tv coverage.

it is amusing to see kimi stating that he doesnt care less about the f1 scene. he is just interested in the racing. it was this sort of attitude that caused him problems with ferrari. but i guess that as long as he is in with a chance of wins, he will keep racing, but if he drops back, or is asked to do a lot of promo work, he may well lose interest again.
still, at least he is different.

re jaime, he really shot himself in the foot, although it is just as well he turned down the hrt approaches!

It would have been tough for him to get into Lotus, Raikkonen's negotiations with Williams had already hit the buffers by the time we got to Brazil, and im certain Lotus would have wanted him to bring a big cheque.

Even if there is an element of truth in this, surely he would have the now Grosjean seat, is anyone seriously saying they would've gone with Alguersuari & Grosjean as their line up. Both good drivers, but not a line up to get sponsors and backers queuing around the block
