Alonso as ever says it exactly as it is.
He knows from 2010, when he was 47 points behind after the British GP and yet was leading the championship at the last round that Barcelona isn't critical in the grand scheme of things.
He is 10 points behind currently, a quite brilliant job of damage limitation, and if Ferrari keep improving quicker than the others, we all know who the other drivers truly fear.

@ herowassenna - agreed. Alonso needs to be on competitive machinery as he is one of the most exciting and talented drivers there.

However, I hope he is wrong and the car is fixed already as Massa was 200-1 for a podium, which I couldn't resist sticking a fiver on!! Probably wont see that fiver ever again, but I thought they were mad odds considering what can happen in a race.

So Anderson reckons the new exhaust config is worth 0.2/0.3 of a second. That means the red team have still got to find another 0.8/1s to be near the front. Yes they have even more upgrades for Barcelona but the others are also going to make steps forward. Good luck for 2013 Ferrari.

It looks better now for Ferrari. I don't think that the gap between them and the frontrunners is 0.8 sec. Maybe in qualifying this is true but in race pace is nearly 0.4 to 0.5 sec. If they closed the gap to 0.2/0.3 sec it means that they are 0.3 sec behing in race condionts and 0.5/0.6 in qualifying. Not bad to begin closing the gap like this.

alonso has already won a gp (albeit a wet one), but who knows what the race pace will be like. rbr are behind mclaren in quali, but are faster than them in race. then there is also tyres, strategy etc to be take into account. i reckon that over a race distance, ferrari will be up with the top two teams again.

Richard,
What about Lotus, Kimi,Grosjean ..Mercedes's Nico,
and Shumy..I think you are making a bad speculative call.
Alonzo is not Superman
Methinks Ferrari is long gone out of the top five..
Adios, Jose

Rumour has it, Ferrari to have double DRS in Barcelona or soon after.

"in Barcelona, we will have more important updates and we hope that there, we can begin to close down the gap."

If this is true It make sense Barcelona will be 'key but not decisive'

jose. nico and schumi have expressed their doubts about performing in barca. in fact, nico has said that the merc is unable to handle high speed corners.
at the test in mugello, ferrar were the most active team, making the biggest changes. ferrari will be back, just wait and see!

rbr46, Anderson said that the exhaust has given the Ferrari at least 0.2-0.3.
From everything I have read on internet sites, it seems that all the aerodynamic parts they tested have backed up what their readings from the factory said they would.
Alot of what they are working on, will be introduced in barcelona, could it possibly be that they don't want the competition having any time to copy and integrate anything into their design?

Anyway, give Alonso a car that is .2 or .3 seconds behind the front runners, he will do the rest.
