"Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton both missed the Mugello test, meaning neither has experience of running the new part."

This seems to add some force to the argument that at least one of them should have been at Mugello.

If you read the article, Mclaren have all the necessary data from the test to set up the car. These days new parts are on the car at every race, therefore its business as usual for Jenson and Lewis.
Mugello was not a young driver test, Mclaren used their tried and very good test drivers, both of whom know that track, to assimilate the new parts, as agreed with both Lewis and Jenson.

Shame the low nose has gone, i hate the high noses and wish they'd all go back to noses that touch the front wing with no pillars like b4 Tyrell started the high nose in general in 1990, the current Mclaren was one of the nicer ones in my opinion for a few years.

But as a massive Button & Hamilton fan if they finish 1-2 in the championship they could put dumbo ears on the front nose for all i care...

Whitmarsh is no where near the standard one held by Mclaren when they had Ron Dennis in the paddock. What Whitmarsh did to Hamilton not letting him test in Mugello was absurd and completely counterproductive. If the team doesnt start winning races I want to see Whitmarsh's head rolling!

Initial designs were to interpret and respond to rules, tracks and climates on the old tire designs. Betting this was planned to tweak for the new tire characteristics with significant performance data on these new designs.
Geeze. Until Red Bull raised the bar current Mac performance has been outstanding (save the pits) in 2012.
I expected new stuff at the rear. Maybe Merc is forcing rethink.
