I think I sense a bit of hypocrisy here. Alonso didn't even have respect for some of his past teammates. Now that he is in control at Ferrari (along with a teammate that cannot challenge him), he tries to come off as a saint with the utmost respect for his fellow drivers... balderdash!

The "respect" Alonso refers to has been a casualty of the huge amounts of money in the sport, and has been replaced by "results". The days of the gentlemen racers is long gone from F1, and it's never coming back--not when sponsors are putting up hundreds of millions to put an entry on the grid, and certainly not just to demonstrate that nice guys really do finish last.
