A tactical battle over tyre strategy in qualifying resulted in pole for Lewis Hamilton ahead of Pastor Maldonado, and shock early exits for Mark Webber and Jenson Button.

Quite a pleasant battle (for the fans) for pole position. Nothing was decided until the last drivers crossed the line. Q2 caused quite a stir as well, with Button and Webber being on the outside looking in. It's nice to see teams like Lotus and Williams giving the perennial favorites all they can take. Good job by Alonso, not so by Massa... Ferrari should really think about replacing him sooner rather than later.

Very good job by FA. He took an entirely new car into the top three. Red went all out in repairing the unbeatable struture. Also in the pocket book. Massa looked near a breakdown getting out of the car.

Good to see Alonso was the first to greet Lewis after his walk back from the track , seems 2007 is well behind them its just the keyboard *****s who keep bringing it up.

I hope the car will be ok tomorrow as Lewis has had more bad luck than any other driver this season.

well done to hamilton in quite a good quali session overall. still nothing is won or lost on saturday, lets hope the new car shows the necessary race pace tomorrow.

i even have to praise teflon who it must be said did a great job for the tifosi.

also great to williams up at the front.

all bodes well for tomorrows race :)

I thought he wd come back strong this season and he certainly has!
I feel a bit sorry for the wheel nut guy, any news on if the team gave him another job or if he has left Mclaren?

He isnt employed to put wheels on during a race. he will be a fully qualified and massively intelligent engineer - not a grease monkey or anything like that.

on race days, some engineers take roles as pit crew, but its on a voluntary basis

Great qualifying lap by Lewis. Wonder what the chances are of him being given a 5 or 10 place penalty for parking his car out on the track after his lap. I know nothing 'should' happen but it is the FIA's chosen one we're talking about!! As for the tyres can't they just give all the drivers who get through to Q3 1 set of super soft+sticky qualifiers so we can see how fast the cars can really go rather than piddling about managing their race allocations??

Great result for Hamilton in Quali hopefully he goes onto win! As a side message something needs to be done to get all the cars to go out in Q3 and what Brundel said is right, they should offer points based on grid positions for Quali P1 10 points P2 9 points etc
