Bernie has subsequently added that he thinks Vettel is too young to go to Ferrari, but as the biggest team in F1, Ferrari should be running the 'two best' drivers in the field, they employ the drivers afterall, not the other way around

rob. no. but probably means that when a driver is considered suitable for ferrari, they tend to stay there until they retire!

but the story is just a continuation of what stefano said a few days ago. since then , luca has responded, indicating that there are NO plans to replace flip at least next year. couple this with the fact that he claims perez is not ready, then it looks as if flip will be with ferrari until perez is ready.

if you read the "story" you will see that stefano was answering hypothetical questions, so the answers would be equally hypothetical.

So, who would then be the number 1 driver ?

Alonso is going to be so happy getting real competition from a fast driver, last time that happened he lost, lost the plot, cheated, publicly blackmailed the team... and went and hid in a renault for 2 sesaons rather than face more humiliation.

I bet this made his day, it certainly has made mine !

Richard, at one time that would have been true. But in modern F1 its no longer the case. 5 teams have the same opportunity that Ferrari offers and in Vettels case they have nothing but the name to offer. With Newey on Sebs side he would be foolish to leave anytime in the near future. My guess is that Ferrari is messing with Red Bulls head. If a driver is comfortable at a team he should stay with them. Ferrari has only produced 1 WDC since 05.
