O my god, that is terrible. All my thoughts and prayers are with Maria and her family. This just proves that as safe as F1 and racing as a whole has become, there will never be complete safety. Sometimes racing can bite, and it can happen to champions as well as rookies.

As relieving as it must be to be alive, I can't imagine having to come to terms with losing an eye so I hope Maria's doing ok. Still, can only hope she recovers from her other injuries. Thoughts to her and her family at this time.

As the report goes, it truly is grim reading (the loss of her eye also goes to show how lucky Filippa Massa was) but the main issue is that she has survived. Very freakish accident she must have suffered and that it happened to a woman driver makes it all the more grim...It goes without saying now I hope she makes a full recovery despite the loss.

Although this is not good news, in the greater scheme of things, if this is as bad as it gets then overall it is good news. Fact is she is lucky to be alive.

The loss of an eye is not the end of her racing career, there are other avenues for her. Zanardi of course raced WTC for years despire being technically "disabled".

So whilst it is "bad news", at 10.30am yeterday morning it is a result that probably everyone would have taken.
