Despite a lengthy operation lasting through the night, Maria de Villota has lost her right eye as a result of the testing accident she suffered at Duxford Airfield on Tuesday.

Very sad news. I hope the worst is now behind her and that she can recover quickly.

I can only imagine how difficult it must be to cope with the loss of an eye, especially being a racing driver. :(

Such a sad incident, it sounded to me from the limited information in the media about it that this was a slow speed incident that probably could have been avoided if someone had been paying attention. To have a career ended and such serious facial injuries is really saddening and I hope she is WELL compensated by the team, for it...if she makes a full recovery, they need to make sure she's taken care of.
