F1 » Massa close to feeling back to his best

Felipe Massa might not have quite made it onto the podium at Silverstone, but there seemed little doubt that the Brazilian was close to being back to his best after a lean spell.

He might be back to near his best, but I reckon decisions have already been made and a new driver will join Ferrari next year. Flip will go to one of the lower rung teams as lead driver. Mark for Ferrari!.

Better drive for Felipe but it would take several wins between now and the end of the year for him to keep his drive, which doesn't look likely.

He can get within a few tenths of Alonso on a qually lap but is nowhere near him in the race. It's clear to everyone that Massa is no longer good enough, sadly, and there's plenty of young talent to replace him who would do a far better job - Perez being the obvious choice which we all expect, but also guys like di Resta.

I think Massa will end up somewhere like Williams or Caterham. Sauber and STR focus on young drivers a lot, and I don't see any team better than midfield taking a chance on him.

Two or three more races like this around now may well pave the way to a new contract for next yera. Having said that, he had his strongest performances of the year in terms of pace at a similar point in 2011 so he needs to keep this up.

With regards to 2008, Hamilton deserved the title, there were 18 races not 5 laps on a damp Interlagos track that decided it. Felipe deserved it too mind you.

I truly hope FM can keep this up. He is one of the most under-rated off track person in F1. Since the subject of his lost WDC title has come up ( which was because of an extremely poor 1/4 of a lap by Glock) no one can deny his utmost professional handling of the situation. Had the situation been reversed I will bet the same handling would NOT have happened.

To whomever posted that they enjoyed the Ferrari garage reactions. Total thumb down. Smacks of a poor winner and Ferrari hater. If you ever have something that you work for a year ripped from you at the last second because of nothing you did - remember the Ferrari garage.

me. you should have seen the comments after the event! there were some posters, (still posting) who were absolutely ecstatic to see the initial joy in the ferrari pits, suddenly being turned into tears. there were some very hurtiful comments about flips dad. needless to say, the posters were unadulterated lulu fanboys, and to my mind were not fans of the sport. its sad that some look no further than "their " driver.

@Richard & @ME it's strange that this whole Interlagos situation has been brought up as I watched the race on a season review about an hour ago.

I still believe over the course of the season Massa deserved the championship more, he seemed to make more of an impression of a driver that didn't make many mistakes and when he was under pressure he delivered, I think if it weren't for for the engine blowing up in Hungry and the fuel rig left in at Singapore both times in the lead he would have won.

Also watching the reaction of the Ferrari garage was heartbreaking watching the championship disappear as Glock lost grip and Hamilton went past.

Great driver at Silverstone by Massa I hope he keeps it up.
