Jenson Button: Valencia and Silverstone were certainly difficult races for us, but I don't think they were truly representative of our pace

An average driver in a slow car = no championship. He won it in 2009 due to the Double diffuser and will be no where close to the front in the next 2 races. He says the next 2 races are crucial, mark my words, he will not be fighting for the win and the gap to the leaders will remain huge going into the summer break. The car isnt fast enough and button is just an average driver.
Thats my 2 cents.

I think you'll find its the next 11 races that are crucial. Its not like you can win the next 2 and then sit out the following half dozen races is it?

There's also a lot of use of the word 'hoping' in the article...

@Whatever go spout your drivel somewhere else, he won the championship in 2009 brilliantly, the Brawn barely got developed all year and he kept his head and was consistently scoring points which other didn't.

What he means are the next 2 races are crucial to get him back into the championship hunt and to remain there.

With the way the Redbull and Ferrari drivers taking the top places and Lotus in the mix, I don't see Button making much of a progress in the next 2 races, but would luv to see him in the mix so that WDC would be spiced up a bit more

It is clear that Jenson has matured as a driver, and when he's on form he can do an incredible job - Melbourne 2010 anyone? I wouldn't call him an average driver by any means, average drivers don't become world champions! I think the difference this year for Button is the tyres, and it seems that Hamilton is able to exploit them to greater use.
