algy and buemi said the same thing last year! apart from that, daniel is toning down his expectations at last. he really has to pull the finger out, if he is to progress to another team.

I think you all miss the point. DR is an Unbelivable driver. His 10:2 qualy over JEV is only one reason. I also rate JEV highly but his over confidence is hurting him. Back to DR. He has the Australian disease in that he cannot start. If he was at least average in starting he would have found points on at least 2 other past races. That's racing. We can spec what we like but if your car is slow the only true gauge is your teammate. Give them both another year and an aero upgrade

Richard, the car has gone backwards from last year, even Tost commented that both drivers cannot do much more with the car at present, it's average at best, if JEV was finishing in the top then I would agree with you but he is at best matching Daniel, and I am being nice there!

This years STR is such a lemon that it's impossible to rate these drivers fairly, let alone compare them to the two drivers they replaced. Last year BUE and ALG had the luxury of a car capable of regular top-10 finishes. RIC and JEV have no such luxury this year. Let's see if the team can throw together a decent car in 2013 so we can really see these boys fight with other drivers and show their worth.

Richard, Buemi and Algi both said the same last year but they had both been with Toro Rosso for three seasons not one. If either DR or JEV got the rocket they should both be hard done by.

Interesting to note though you say at least DR is moderating his expectations finally - wasn't it JEV who came out making all sorts of arrogant claims at the start of the year?

trent. i have said it before. vergne is a rookie and is too impetuous. but in race conditions, he is faster than ricciardo, who at least has some f1 experience. now, if dr wants to be considered better than average, he needs to beat vergne comprehensively. he aint doing that, and until he does, he will go no further.

richard you continue your "faster in race conditions" argument, even though DR started behind Vergne the last race and still beat him, and they are 5-5 in completed races. He has a whole ELEVEN races more "experience" than Vergne, which is nothing, in case you need it explained (and even less relevant, considering he was in an HRT). 9-2 in qualifying seems to suggest to me, at least, that he is quite comprehensively ahead of Vergne at this point, when race results are even. If Ricciardo beats Verge in races 15-5 this season, will you make up some derogatory "fact" to put him down, like you did with your Ferrari-Webber talks being "one sided"?

Richard, your "JEV is a faster race driver" argument is tiring very quickly. Based on what evidence? A subjective opinion on how he is somehow the better for 5-5 race results (and ignoring an 8-2 qualifying trouncing)? You're yet to actually back this strong opinion of yours up. Your default setting is "So I can't have an opinion?". You can, but back it up.

Also, let's drop the "DR is not a rookie" malarkey. 11 races with the HRT is more a hinderance than a help. Other than basic race tyre management, what would he have learned?
