Heikki Kovalainen and Adrian Sutil could be ideal candidates to step into the Sauber line-up in 2013, according to Swiss pundit Marc Surer.

Kovalainen is a possibility, Sutil would be ludicrous given his GBH conviction. Neither driver would achieve results that will be any better than Kobayashi or Perez have done so far in this season characterised by inconsistency from nearly all midfield teams.

if F1 let kobayashi go, we will lose one of the bravest and entertaining driver, I have never seen such a brave driver like him since senna's death, put him in the top car and imagine when he fights wheel to wheel with hamilton, f1 needs that entertainment

@marco, I like Kobayashi's bravery but I'm not too sure we would see him wheel to wheel with Hamilton because I'm not so sure he's quite fast enough. As for this potential line-up, Kovalainen is a good choice. Fast, experienced and with something to prove. He's also good because Sauber's issues have generally been qualifying further back than they should. Kovalainen's qualifying performances have been nothing short of astonishing most of the time (in the car he's in, he does a phenomenal job). As for Sutil, a GBH conviction isn't a good thing to have on your CV especially at a team like Sauber.

Boring speculation.. I believe if they decide to replace anyone they will use their test driver who is doing ok in GP2 right now, but imho needs at least one more season at that level before he makes the jump.

Kamui will deliver the goods, I have no doubt. Infact this break may be what he needs to refocus for the second half of the season. He's desperate for a podium and his first win. He just doesn't show that in interviews like Perez.

Kolvi is a good choice as he has had some good schooling at the hands of the boy from Hertford and that experience for me would put Kolvi against any f1 driver, but i do like Kobi i think if it was not for his ethnicity and being more marketable he would have gone to one of the bigger teams by now.

@ sokudo

Clearly you never saw Kobi in the Toyota then. he was wheel to wheel with Hamilton then. The kids got alot of talent and is very brave. hes a great racing driver. just needs a brake.
