Should be a great race for Austin if the track is ready.

Alonso has had great luck avoiding mech issues and getting rain for the soft suspension.

Otherwise, he is still the best driver in the world at this point in season. The upgrade race is just getting started. Still time to toss the salad.

Schumi returned in an inconsistent and lacklustre car, Kimi returned in a surprisingly stunning car.

Schumi also has to drive a car himself, instead of his era full of driver aids. Kimi never had that.

Schumi hadn't driven for 3 years before his return, Kimi was still rallying.

Is it really surprising to see why Kimi has gotten back into the mix so quickly?

Right now, it isn't Vettel biting at Alonso's heels...it's his teammate. As a Webber fan, I have to say it gets real old seeing him automatically written off in every prediction I read, when he's having such a great season and is most definitely in the hunt, sitting in second place in points.

Interesting the contrasts of opinions from two different man with vast experience of F1 (Minardi who goes for Raikkoen to fight it out with Alonso and Barrichello who goes for Vettel to fight it out with Alonso), note that two different drivers has been named as most likely to fight it out with the same driver.
But now Alonso himself comes out and say that in his opinion his most likely challengers are Vettel and Lulu.
Could be Minardi was basing his opinion on the outcome of the Lotus intended F-DUCT (passive)/DDRS “it doesn't have a proper name up to now” which is intended to give a gain/benefit when the rear wing is closed rather than open, but as Lotus was finding it quite difficult to make the system work we will have to wait and see.
