Martin Whitmarsh reveals that Jenson Button could be asked to support Lewis Hamilton's title bid, although the man himself says it isn't time to consider such a move

If button finishes behind lewis in the next 2 races then i say they dont have a choice if they want to realistically close down the 40 odd points to Alonso... i know drivers like to say that mathamatically they are still in the championship but you have to add a bit of common sense to that and say that unless mclaren suddenly get a (2011 red bull like) car advantage over the rest of the field its just not going to happen for button this year... Hamilton at least has an outsiders chance, although even he probably needs a non finish or a couple of very low scoring races for Alonso (with himself winning) to have a real chance at this years WDC.

"I don't think Hamilton need Button supoort right now, Button can't help himself so why should he need Button's help. it's rediclous "

And unreadable sentence of the week goes to this post.

Not before time, Button has no chance of the championship and is unlikely to appear on the podium again this year but I have to say it's debatable if he can get himself into a position to help Hamilton. He would need to be up with the fast men and he has'nt been there for a long stretch. Perhaps Hamilton is hoping Button will run into people as they lap him a tactic Hamilton is well versed in.

This is put up after Martin Whitmarsh said there will be no team orders for a while.

Even if Button has no chance I can't see Hamilton winning it because Alonso, Red Bull & Lotus are very strong and I stand by what I said last year, Hanilton will ever win another championship as his mental strenghth isn't as sting as most of his closest competitors and in this sport mental strength is hugely important.

The timing of the comment suggests that Whitmarsh is doing everything to "close" the Hamilton contract, and nothing more.
Both Lewis and Jenson are on record as saying they will help their teammate, but only when their chances of winning have passed.
Nothing new here....
