F1 » McLaren hails 'truly brilliant pole' by Button

McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh was thrilled by Jenson Button's 'brilliant' performance in qualifying at Spa, which came out of the blue after the lack of set-up track time.

It's truly brilliant when Button is on pole? Whitmarsh is more happy about Button's pole than Hamilton's win at Hungary, says it all really. You'll never hear Whitmarsh give Hamilton such praise.

It was a good performance no doubt, but don't Mclaren arguably have the best car on the grid, but have been under-utilizing it?

At least thats what all the "experts" keep saying.

The cars go into Park Ferme after Qualifying so no changes are allowed. It's not something that can be done at a pitstop either, so he's going to struggle in sectors 1 and 3. Who knows how the car is going to perform in race conditions though. It may turn out that Button's setup isn't good on high fuel. They had been previously suffering with higher degradation on the tires compared to other teams too.. So lower downforce might not be the best option tomorrow.

@ Vince I noticed that myself. It's amazing the contrast. He doesn't know how to mask his feelings when it comes to Button. He is very transparent. This man is a phony and like I've been saying needs to be fired.

Pole Position.... I feel sure that once your feelings are made known to McLaren, Whitmarsh will be on his way!. Has it never occured to you that perhaps, just perhaps, Jenson is nicer and easier to get along with than Lewis?. If that is the case you would have to be a robot not to warm to him wouldn't you?

@ me that's where u are wrong. He is a team boss and his personal feelings shouldn't get in the way of that. He is suppose to be a professional and show no bias. If you're right he should be fired fired immediately. Thanks, for making my point for me.

mclaren as a team certainly have no reason to be proud of these supports from on here, to me these mclaren supporters looks and sounds a total behavioural disgrace, some of whom are not only one eyed but totally blind and certainly doesn't understand anything to do with F1.

PolePosition Happily, you are not in charge at Woking. Martin is.
He has laboured the point repeatedly that McLaren really wants Lewis to stay at the team. In praising Jenson for the brilliant pole position he has stated, yet again, that McL has the best driver line up in F1. You can not, for one second, claim that MW is biased and favours Jenson. It is utter rubbish to say that. Even Lewis praised Jenson's performance and wished him well for the race. Why can't you just be pleased for JB and a great performance.
Go Jenson.
