Harsh, harsh penalty considering what Maldonado gets away with weekly.....

Personally dont think it's deserved, was a crazy move but there was no malice......

Shouldda been a start from back of the grid.

Penalty is justified given the consequences (which could have been much worse).

That said, it seems somewhat harsh in the context of some of the driving we've seen in recent years. Can't even remember the last driver ban!

I agree its harsh but it sends a message, thats the point of it. Lets be serious about it, Fernando was roughly one metre from losing his life because of Romains "error of judgement"

@ Tom

When the guy has been involved in crashes 7 times on the first lap in 12 races, I think he should be banned. He is a danger to other drivers and could have possibly caused a hell of a lot more damage to other drivers today. What would have happened if his car would have gone over Alonso's head and not the front of his car?

One difference from Maldonado are the consequences of Grosjean's move. Alonso's lead destroyed, many competitors taken out of the race, which sucks for the fans, and the fact that this could have been very serious. Grosjean's car skirted Alonso's head. A few feet difference and Fernando could have had a serious knock on his head.

A ban was probably the right call but I'm sure most would agree that it is slightly harsh considering the amount of times this year that Maldonado has escaped with a minor penalty for similar incidents.
