Luca di Montezemolo: We have to think of something, we cannot stay always the same. We have to be innovative without losing the F1 DNA.

It's only casual F1 fans like Montezemolo that want shorter races.

He was banging on about Ferrari quitting F1 and going to Le Mans not so long ago, but decided against it when the organisers wouldn't change it from 24 hours to 24 minutes.

Italian politics can't come quick enough.

Luca di Montezemolo will always find something to moan about.

He won't be happy until the only team allow on the grid are his cars and he's just handed the manufacturers championship first race.

The whole classifcation of Grand Prix are races that are at least 300km. The races are already shorter than they used to be - about a decade or so ago most of the races lost a lap from the distance for some unknown reason reducing them from just under 200 miles to just over 190 miles (probably closer to being spot on 300km). Monaco is the exception.

If you want them any shorter, it technically would no longer be F1, just a more expensive version of Formula Renault, F2, F3000, etc.

Maybe Monte should move the Ferrari operations out of F1 and in to a lower category - essentially do the opposite of what Jordan, Manor, etc., have done. Shorter races, less cost, more road relevant technology (e.g. steel brakes, less exotic materials and science, less super aero).... oh yeah, and nowhere near the same level of pomp and kudos....
You can't have one without the other.

I do agree in one way though, given the choice I'd shorten a couple of races like Valencia and Bahrain to around... I dunno,

vince, they cut off one lap when it was decide that parade lap counts toward race distance.

i think a lot of pressure for shorter races not from fans but from tv. need to dumb down f1 to fit atencion span of average tv viewer which is about 12 minites.
