When they are denying plan B you know they have a very well thought out back up plan called something else.

Hamilton should sign for the peanuts being offered or take the cash and spectate the action from mid grid.

Like many, I seriously doubt that a team at the leave of McLaren's has no plan B. It would surpise me if they didnt have a Plan Z formulated!
What Mr whitmarsh propobably means, is there is no clear/easy replacement for Lewis.
They find themself in a position where they have to decide whether they want to invest in the future and take a gamble on a younger driver, or focus on winning races and championships in the here and now with an established driver.
In terms of younger drives, Nico Hulkenberg would be a obvious choice for the team. However it wouldn't surpise me if they approached Sergio Perez, thus forcing Ferrari's hand with a "use it or lose it" style play.
However, if they are going for established, consistant drivers who are more than able to win races then looking at the current market, there is 1 clear option...

I give you, Mr Kimi Raikkonen.

If Hamilton decides to go McLaren should try to get Massa. He is one of the fastest drivers out there people seem to forget the only team that has beaten Massa is Alonso and that for obvious reasons Button and Massa would be a great lineup for McLaren.

the simple fact of the matter is that Hamilton would not and could not function in any other team and speed alone is not necessarily enough to survive when there is so much talented drivers out there who incidentally are as fast if not faster. Hamilton knows this, McLaren and most other teams looking at Hamilton know this as well.

McLaren are in the business of making money and tons of it. Sponsors need to be satisfied, they want exposure at the sharp end of each race. No plan 'B', rubbish, they have plan 'C' sitting on the table just in case Lewis has a brain snap and leaves... doubt it!

Agree with first poster, Lewis needs Mclaren more than Mclaren need him, they should play hard ball with him and if he doesnt want to sign for peanuts, get rid, they'll be better off without him.
