Well Ithink he has proven himself more than capable in the years he has been with the team. I find the last comment surprisingly biased an uninformed.

At the moment I think there is actually nobody that could realistically challenge Fernando, based on experience alone. No matter what team they are in.

@ Rod01 On the contrary. I've always said Alonso is the best driver in F1. I just don't feel he handles a strong teammate very well. You will never see Vettel or Hamilton on any team he drives for.

Unfortunately Ferrari have backed themselves into a corner with their 2014 outline deal with Vettel. Despite Massa's obvious weakness he is their only real option for a one year deal. Galling to see a good seat taken up by an underachiever, and it means Ferrari struggle in the Manufacturer points (you would think that they would want to win that one but with a one sided driver partnership, what hope?)
On the positive side they do have the best all round driver in the world in Snr Alonso and he is doing a remarkable job which should not be destabilised by
too much change. Pity Ferrari couldn't get Webber and even more sad that the wonderful Alonso/Kubica dream team never came to pass.

His gap to Alonso is race trim is less than a third of what it was earlier, and he has driven impressively in the last 3 races. While he got no official podium, the 3rd place in Monza was his but he had to let Alonso through.

Massa Impressively or Alonso... you guys have no clue what an Class 1 F1 driver is... Shumi, Prost, Senna, Fangio... Sure, Alonso, Vettel, Hamilton are working hard to deserve a good place in the standings... but not even far... just take a cold look at the numbers... Races won, Races 2nd place, etc... Total Podiums, Total numbers using current points rewards. Then you will become with your own and right criteria.
Cheers
