I don't really have an opinion on this, other than Crash being soooooooo slow off the blocks with confirmation of the news (BBC beats you hands down guys), but I have noticed a great nickname for the new pairing which was posted on BBC - 'The Berk In the Merc'. That tickled me.....

Well it's been confirmed, Hamilton is going to Mercedes with an announcement later.

McLaren will announce within the hour that Perez will replace him which sucks I wanted to see Paul di Resta replace Hamilton, I think he & JB would make a great team.

One thing is for sure - McL will not win another WDC or WCC with Button and Perez. If Alonso wins the WDC this year, he will probably win next Year's as well. Hamilton will likely need time to adapt to Merc and will not be a strong contender initially. So this is good news for Alonso and Vettel fans. Maybe Kimi will be in the mix as well if Lotus keeps up with the development...

Sorry McLaren, Button just isnt as good to help you win another WDC.

@Liam48

McLaren were keen on PDR but he doesn't come with backing, money talks in F1. Might be at Ferrari yet now there's an open berth at Sauber to slot Massa in, probably not though.

Wouldnt be so quick to say lewis left for the money, he's probably looking to 2014 when the new regs come in. And remember next year McLaren have to pay for engines so are in effect a customer car team, and I'd bet merc will make things difficult for macca as regards to delivery and specs of new engine losing them time on development for next year

Initially I though "you idiot" but then again, he is not happy at maclaren so maybe the right time to move. Whitmarsh prefers Button who just not have the fight most of the time. Given the situation I guess the best thing for Hamilton was to move. We will soon see how fast Hamilton really is by comparing against Rosberg who was consistently faster than Schumacher. Its a great move for Mercedes.
