Although I'm not his biggest fan, the best driver in F1 at the moment is Alonso and Lauda wouldn't be saying this if he wasn't on Merc's payroll.

Dont know why ths is a problem to some people, Lauda is simply stating what others, including Fernando have been saying all along, "IN A BAD CAR Lewis is perhaps the best driver out there"
