F1 » Kobayashi jubilant after clinching first F1 podium

Kamui Kobayashi couldn't have won his maiden F1 podium at a better place that Suzuka, as an adoring Japanese crowd chanted the name of their favourite motor racing son.

I lived in Mie Prefecture in Japan for half a decade and used travel the 40 minutes to Suzuka regularly. Though not Japanese, I can't tell you how proud I am of Kamui, and I wish I was back there chanting his name with the rest of the crowd at the trophy presentation. Though Sato had his moments, many of the other recent Japanese drivers have not really been up to scratch. Kamui has made it to F1 on skill, and I hope someday to see him up on the top step of the podium. A great result from a great young driver. I hope to see him up there many times more...

Infact I like his spirit in every race. He is unfortunately over shadowed by his team mate but he is real fighter. I'm glad finally he is on podium. Congratualtions Kamui!!!

I am so happy for Kamui, he is such a deserving podium place earner and for it to happen at Japan is the icing on the cake. I would really like to see him go to Ferrari or at least have that Sauber to be able to realistically challenge for the podium each week against RBR Mclaren and Ferrari.

Takuma Sato had a podium in indianapolis 2004. IIRC he could have won that race if BAR had called him in at the right time when a SC deployed.

A job done! Great drive fending off Button in McLaren, with fresher rubber, at the end.
He had too many unlucky moments this year at his great chances. He collected some due today, but needs to (I hope he will) collect more in remaining races to make his 2012 season a fair one that reflects his capability.
