The chances of Felipe Massa having his contract at Ferrari extended for another year took a giant leap forward after the Brazilian driver clinched second place at Suzuka.

Ranger is actually completely right about the Torro Rosso being a Red Bull. That allowed until 2009. The Torro Rosso cars were indeed Red Buull's cars from the previous season with slight modifications to suit the rule tweaks of the year they were being raced in.

So it was a full on Adrian Newey design. With upgrades and modifications. Imagine if Torro Rosso was still using Red Bull's old cars now. There would be a major uproar in the paddock from other teams.

Sure Mr Dietriech Mateschitz has considerably increased his F1 spending since Vettel went to Red Bull, but those old cars were still designed by the master.

Red Bull can offer more money than Ferrari to SV because Red Bull has plenty of money.
The Red Bull made money from Water, Sugar and Caffeine.
As long as the world has water Red Bull can make money.
On the other hand, Red Bull car is best and fasted car on the grid. The Red Bull has F1 best engineer Adrian Newey. If they have problem and then it's only for whiles.
No one know about beyond 2013 when engine regulation change but I don't think it'll affect on their performance.
Currently, Red Bull is best team.

If Massa can start from p5 or below I think he can still get the job done, problem is the last few races hes had poor qualifying then gets tangled up in the race.. he then sets fast pace (alonso pace) and its wuda shuda cuda so better quali felipe!

Thanks for backing me up David. By Monza that year Vettel actually had the current RB chassis modified for the Ferrari engine. He was sometimes a race behind in aero upgrades. If I remember correctly that was the year that the Renault engine was done on power and they were screaming to allowed improvements in the name of "reliability". The Ferrari engine in the TR was a clear advantage. It was still a great drive from Vettel, but nowhere near the Mythical status it has been given by the Vettelheads. Hey maybe they can call the fan club "Vettelica".

This result will probably see Massa in a Ferrari for 2013. Ferrari don't want a world class driver to make Alonso uncomfortable- they want a reasonable second driver who won't complain and who is capable of the odd good points haul like Massa did today - it is enough for them but I just worry that while Felipe is in the team, Ferrari will not see sight of a constuctors' championship. Besides, there is no obvious choice who would be a better fit at Ferrari than Massa is. It is impossible to choose between Hulkenberg and di Resta (and I think they'd do well to stay at Force India for another year), then who else is there? Would you have Kovalainen or Sutil in a Ferrari?

The rest of the season will tell. If he can equal or even better Alonso in the remaining races, then his drive is guaranteed for next year. Keep it up Felipe.

One solitary podium in two seasons does not a contract seal.

I believe Massa wont be in a Ferrari next year. If I'm wrong and he is, however, then he's seat warming for someone else (a big name, perhaps) for 2014.
