Kamui Kobayashi says a lack of sponsors could work against him in his bid for a 2013 F1 drive

Would be sad to see him go out of F1 or towards a team worse than Sauber. He's now 16 points behind Perez who had a few skillful but also kind of fortuitous big points hauls with his 3 podiums (including 2 2nd places).

I'd say both are very good drivers, with different strong points and weaknesses that would be interesting to see play out over a longer time period. If they do decide to let him go (which might very well be the case if they indeed contracted Hulk and want to keep Slim around) I hope he can come back with a better team (maybe stick around as 3rd driver for a year).

Nust be tough if he's out of F1 next year while Perez wins his first races. Many worse things of course but still...

Kobi is a very exciting driver ( remember his first F1 drive when he hounded Button at close quarters and frightened the wits out of Button ) .He is like Kimi . a real racer , th efans love him , at the circuit and watching on TV . Bernie Ecclestone should "move" to keep him in the show.He will develop as a driver if given a good car. He is a lightning qualifier. Love to see him in a Ferrari or a McLaren. Will somebody open a Facebook page "Keep Kobi in F1" ? I dont have the skills to do it myself

Kobay's loss to F1 would be sad. He just brings a level of no drama I'm going to just go out there and race like crazy personality the F1 image needs. To me, he is like lulu, without the drama and that's what best about him. He'll go out race, make some awesome passes and then just go on about his daily business.

I hope Kobay stays at Sauber. Wishful thinking, in 2014, Massa goes back to Sauber and Kobay to Ferrari.

It'll be pretty disgusting to see someone as talented as Kobi being forced to the sidelines while certain other talentless drivers are able to pay their way through.
I hope he stays with sauber or moves to lotus alongside Kimi...

Would love to see him stay as he is a good little driver but unless he can bring a lot of money to a team, forget it! Sad that getting an F1 seat depends on how much money you can bring & not on your abilities.

@shaken - "no one in the whole F1 paddock is sure of their future". That's just a little bit over the top. Vettel, Webber, Button, Perez, Alonso, Rosberg and Hamilton are pretty sure of their immediate F1 future. Raikkonen and de la Rosa also have contracts for 2013 in place. Nine drivers is just a few more than "no one".

I find Kobayashi one of the most likeable guys on the grid (Ricciardo is another). Not that that helps keep a drive, however.

He's always been very exciting to watch and I really do hope he stays in F1. I think McLaren made the right choice with Perez, however.

I remember some months ago, or perhaps even last season, Kobayashi was asked the question "why is it that you're so good at passing" and HIS response was "maybe it's because I'm Japanese my eyes are smaller and I don't see the other cars!" I nearly fell off my chair laughing when I read it.
