F1 » Speed to lose F1 coverage

There will be a changing of the guard in US F1 coverage next season, after the Speed channel confirmed it was being usurped.

I agree with others that the NBC coverage will not be nearly as good as Speed Channels because NBC will mostly likely dumb it down and simplify it to accommodate it's broader audience. Speed Ch. has been doing it for so long they learned how to give auto racing enthusiasts what they want to see and hear. I very much doubt NBC will do this and to cover the winning high bid they need to induce even more commercials meaning less coverage. I will also bet there wont' be live coverage of the qualifying sessions.

Doing this will kill the integrity of the race on tv. Speed Ch. could do better (it's actually pretty good) but I bet for sure the NBC coverage will not be nearly as good.

NBC most probably won't show it live like they did with the Olympics.
Seeing it live was one of the reasons that made F1 special. So much for that.

I will very much miss Speed Channel in the mean time but if history serves right, it will be back on speed ch. or similar in about 5yrs time when NBC viewers get b

Speed has done a great job but before that ESPN did a good job too. NBC may do a good job with this. They do a decent job with American LeMans, Indycar, cycling, and alpine skiing. I rarely watch anything else on Speed as there are too many reality type shows or NASCAR filler. Back when it was Speedvision there was more actual racing. Aside from MotoGP (assuming that they keep it) I probably won't watch Speed at all.

NBC has done a pitiful job with cycling coverage and generally dumbs down everything they present. Versus was far superior before the takeover by NBC. While Speed is less than perfect (Hobbs anglo-bias is particularly annoying at times), they have been faithful in showing F1 in real time whenever possible and in providing streaming coverage of the practice sessions they don't cover in real time. Hope I'm wrong about NBC... please feel free to prove me wrong!

Are you kidding me? Formula One is finally getting off of the ground here in the U.S. and they're going to dump Speed Channel for NBC because of a few more bucks? Major, major mistake! The present coverage is top notch, you'll never top it and will lose viewership over time. Does money have to control everything today?

Well this just blows! I am hearing that Speed may not even exist in its current form next season. Motogp, Wsbk, and F1 were the ONLY reason I pay extra for my current sat TV package. I will try and keep an open mind about it but I will certainly miss the current broadcast team and coverage. Buxton,Varsha, Matchett and the occasional Sam Posey editorial will be hard to one up.
