F1 » JYS: Vettel no F1 great

Sir Jackie Stewart believes that Sebastian Vettel needs to prove himself away from Adrian Newey-designed cars before he can be called an F1 'great', but suggests the German would be mad to go to Ferrari just now....

Silliness aside, JYS certainly makes a good point that Seb would be making an odd choice to go to Ferrari. When he hits 30 and is more interested in the prestige than wins, sure. Jump ship. Until then, Ferrari doesn't build cars fast enough to back up their drivers' talent.

Sebastian is 25 years old. He has demolished all the records for the youngest driver to do whatever. He's a 2 time world champion already. And leading this year for #3. He started out in Alonso's old Minardi (Toro Rosso.) Alonso was never able to win a race in that car or even come close to doing anything impressive in it. Sebastian qualified 1 and won a race in that car, not to mention other achivements in the old Minardi. Also Sebastian had to begin his career racing in that old Minardi. Hamilton was gifted a McLaren at his first race. Hasn't done a whole lot in that McLaren in the 6 years he's had it.
Vettel has 2 grand slams now. Is #2 or #3 in all time qualifying and race win totals. Oh, and don't forget he's only 25 years old. People will look back on this comment in 10 years when Seb peaks out in his career and all of the extra achievments he's sure to amass and say...
That old nut Jackie Stewart didn't have a clue what was going on when they put him behind a

I have great respect for what JYS has accomplished, both in the car, and out of it, in terms of safety.

But, damn, I wish he would just shut up. Felt that way two decades ago, and he...still.... is just out there yapping away.

Thinking this way, Ayrton Senna won 3 championships with McLaren formula one Honda car that was the best and most powerful car. Before driving for McLaren, Senna did not win any championship. Sir Stewart, Senna was not great then?

Good point. Jackie Stewart AND Niki Lauda BOTH need to be put out to pasture. They are becoming more and more irrelevant with every backward comment they make. I think they are both Senile.
